Cheap Wheels And Tyres
- the name of Shira's car, a blue boxy American model, which she purchased in the Philadelphia area just prior to moving to Big Fun. The dealer's windshield writing is still there, with the words "Cheap Wheels" followed by its price, $1095.
- (tyre) tire: hoop that covers a wheel; "automobile tires are usually made of rubber and filled with compressed air"
- A rubber covering, typically inflated or surrounding an inflated inner tube, placed around a wheel to form a flexible contact with the road
- A strengthening band of metal fitted around the rim of a wheel
- (tyre) Sur: a port in southern Lebanon on the Mediterranean Sea; formerly a major Phoenician seaport famous for silks
- A tire (in American English) or tyre (in British English) is a ring-shaped covering that fits around a wheel rim to protect it and enable better vehicle performance by providing a flexible cushion that absorbs shock while keeping the wheel in close contact with the ground.
May 29, 2010 -- Yay, I can remember what happened yesterday. :P (But hey, give me some credit... I have yet to miss a day of pictures. *knock on wood*)
We found out where the karting track was when we were looking for the actual track. Turns out this weekend was their Gold Cup race weekend, with a bunch of people from out of town showing up to compete.
We got pit passes, met one of the local club members and got a very good introduction to karting!! I plan on sharing a lot more pictures to come of karting... We're thinking of getting into the sport. It's fairly cheap after the inital equipment cost.
We also found out about the local indoor karting place. We went to check it out and ended up paying for a 15 minute session. It was awesome since it was just the hubs and I... Karts are adult-only and can go up to 35 MPH. (I felt like I got close, but I'm not sure I did... Just felt like it haha.) It was a ton of fun and I'm *still* sore from it... We're definitely going back. I need gloves now. (I can use my helmet instead of borrowing one, woohoo!)
But yes, gloves are a must on my list now... I'm thinking Alpine Starts for me. ;)
Car-related: Since it was cold out, I didn't take a ton of pics... But I had to get some of the action out on the track!
These guys are actually driving shifter karts. They're way advanced as far as karts go... And also roughly $10k apiece.
Erm, our first kart will probably be in the $2500 range.... Haha. I'm not sure I'll ever get a shifter kart myself. I want to do full-size car racing, but as far as fairly cheap wheel-to-wheel action, karting seems like the way to go! (I'll post updates and what not on my blog, so if you're curious feel free to follow along there.)
All it really means is the Miata is definitely going to start being my tow vehicle.... :P I was planning on having her tow an extra set of tires, and now a kart, lol!
Came across two riders fixing a flat. Problem: cheap wheel w/ tall rim plus cheap tire w/ very tight bead equals extreme difficulty taking tire off wheel. David "thumbs of steel" got them on their way with help from two tire levers and a lot of elbow grease. Bonus points: they had a mini pump that came with a foot lever.
